Tempo Polveroso by Frederik Vercruysse

Graanmarkt 13 and photographer's agency Initials LA have launched an exhibition by Belgian photographer Frederik Vercruysse. ‘Tempo Polveroso’ shows a series of photographs that came to life during an ‘artist in residency’ project in Villa Lena, Tuscany. Frederik has worked for numerous magazines including Wallpaper*, AD Germany, Dwell, and Elle Decoration and can count brands such as Airbnb, Muller Van Severen, Eastpak, villa eugénie, Raf Simons, IKEA and many museums and architects among his clients.

Although the project which Frederik Vercruysse initially had in mind when embarking on his residency at Villa Lena was a new series of still lifes, he soon felt compelled to capture his inspirational surroundings in images rather than remain within the four walls of his studio.

His photographs of marble quarries evoke a sense of beauty, while concurrently imbued with a melancholy sprit; the creation of beauty at the expense of nature. Without the inclusion of any human figures, it is impossible to fathom the larger-than-life scale of this totally unique form of landscape architecture. This has produced some abstract and picturesque images.

‘Tempo Polveroso’ or: ‘Pulverised Time’. A series of 16 unique still lifes over which a cloud of mysterious, powdery mist appears to be suspended.
